The Supreme Court Pleasantly Surprised Us All This Week

By: Executive Tea Staff

We don’t get enough good news lately. The latest decisions by SCOTUS have been a pleasant surprise for the Republican-majority led court. Let’s get into the decisions they made this week!

The Supreme Court ruled that LGBTQ individuals are protected under the Civil Rights Act

In a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court ruled that under the Civil Rights Act, gay, lesbian, and transgender employees are protected from being fired, turned down, or discriminated by a job based on their sexual orientation. Two Republicans on the court - Neil Gorsuch and John Roberts, were a part of the majority vote to ensure this protection. Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Brett Kavanaugh all dissented from the ruling.

This ruling served as a blow to the Trump administration, who wanted to reverse positions that protected the LGBTQ community from discrimination in the workplace.

The Supreme Court ruled to save DACA

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the Trump administration cannot legally proceed with their plan to end DACA, which supports 800,000 young immigrants, known as Dreamers. Dreamers are young immigrants who were born in the United States to parents who are not legal immigrants. Permanently ending DACA has been a longtime campaign promise of the Trump administration, and the Supreme Court just pumped the brakes.

To make it even more glorious, Donnie is big mad.
