With the election being only 78 days away, you know 2020 is heating up chile! Rapper Cardi B, who has a history of being vocal on social media about politics, interviewed Joe Biden in an article published to Elle Magazine.
Cardi B, who is the top-charting on the billboards right now for her hit song with Megan thee Stallion titled “WAP”, sat down for a virtual interview with soon-to-be Democratic nominee Joe Biden. When Biden got the call from Cardi, he introduced her to his daughter, Ashley, who he said was a fan and had nicknamed him “Joey B”. Per usual, Cardi B was bringing the looks:
Bardi really spoke for the people as she described her first thoughts on the election: “I have a whole list of things I want our president to do for us,” she said. “But first, I want Trump out. His mouth gets us in trouble so much.” She continued, “We’re living in a pandemic right now and I just want answers. I want to know when this is over, I want to go back to my job, I want to be able to go outside, I want to not feel like I’m trapped in my home. But I don’t want somebody to lie to me and tell me that it’s OK to go outside, it’s OK not to wear a mask…I want a timeline for us to get better. I want a president to tell us the steps for us to get better.”
Cardi also spoke on having actual consequences for police officers when they kill innocent people, “I just want stricter laws that are fairer for black citizens, and for cops, too,” she said. Say it louder for the people in the back!
Cardi also took us back to her pre-Bodak Yellow days and reminded Biden of the reality of how many people struggle to afford college and get by: “I couldn’t afford to go to McDonald’s on my lunch break,” she said. “That is so important, to finance students while they’re in college, because they get really discouraged.”
This interview came on the heels of Joe Biden’s selection of Kamala Harris as his running mate for the upcoming election in November. Harris, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA), and one of the very few Black woman elected to the Senate, is expected to bring some needed-momentum and excitement with Black voters. This interview hints that the campaign is also aiming more outreach toward young voters.
