Colin Kaepernick's Case Against The NFL Is Going To Trial

2 years after Colin Kaepernick's first August 2016 protest, the fight against both injustice and the NFL continues. On August 28th, an arbitrator dismissed the NFL's request to dismiss Kaepernick's case of collusion amongst owners to keep him out of the league as a form of punishment for his protests' advocating for social justice. Kap's case will now officially go to trial.
After Kaepernick's decision to take the knee during the national anthem before games sparked widespread controversy, he appeared to be blackballed by the league, remaining unsigned throughout free agency. Last October, Kaepernick filed a former grievance against the NFL for conspiring to keep him out of the league. His lawyer Mike Geragos argued,
“ Principled and peaceful protest...should not be punished and athletes should not be denied employment based on partisan political provocation by the Executive branch of our government.”
Kaepernick's protest has been a source of controversy and political debate, driving even the President of the United States to chime in on multiple occasions, even calling out Kaepernick as a "son of a b***ch" during a rally last September.
New York Times reported, "A hearing could begin by the end of the year, though the two sides could settle the case before then. Kaepernick is seeking damages equal to what he would have earned if he were still playing in the league."
