Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy Announces Retirement
By: Anna Gibson
Justice Anthony Kennedy has announced his long rumored retirement on Wednesday. In a letter to the president, Kennedy states, “For a member of the legal profession it is the highest of honors to serve on this Court.” Although appointed by former Republican President Ronald Reagan in 1987, Kennedy was a progressive swing vote on many important issues. He voted in favor of same-sex marriage, affirmative action and refused to overturn Roe vs Wade.
Kennedy’s departure will allow Trump to appoint a Judge who will vote in favor of the President’s ultra conservative agenda. Democrats currently appear helpless to stop him.
Who’s on the short-list? Potential candidates include Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Judge Raymond M. Kethledge reported CNN.
