Friday evening, Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe, just a few days shy of McCabe's official retirement. We reported in January that McCabe was stepping down in what appeared to be a sus departure, and it looks like that was true. Firing McCabe just days before his official retirement is undoubtedly #petty, and will leave McCabe with no pension. McCabe fired back in an official statement, accusing the White House of intentionally waging a war on the FBI,

This attack on my credibility is one part of a larger effort not just to slander me personally, but to taint the FBI, law enforcement, and intelligence professionals more generally...It is part of this Administration’s ongoing war on the FBI and the efforts of the Special Counsel investigation, which continue to this day. Their persistence in this campaign only highlights the importance of the Special Counsel’s work.
— Andrew McCabe

Trump, who has long publicly expressed dismay for McCabe, celebrated his termination via Twitter:

Twitter quickly pulled out tweets from Trump's 2017 archive that seemed to suggest Trump long planned on intentionally firing McCabe to block his pension:

In the midst of the high-stakes Russia Investigation, McCabe's messy departure may be some thing for Mueller's team to look at. Since McCabe was so heavily involved in the Russia Investigation, you do have to wonder why Trump was so intent on getting him, and Comey, out of the FBI. McCabe was also one of three high-level FBI officials to confirm that Trump did indeed ask for promised loyalty in the Russia probe.

Seeing a President so involved in discrediting a public institution that just so happens to be investigating the President is a little worrisome, sis.
