NBC host Megyn Kelly is in hot water amid her defense of blackface on her morning show. In a discussion about using blackface for Halloween costumes, Kelly said she didn't see the big deal, "But what is racist?" Kelly asked. "Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. Back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character." In her defense, she referenced Real Housewives of New York cast memember Luann who dressed up as Diana Ross and slightly darkened her face, "And I don't know, I felt like who doesn't love Diana Ross? She wants to look like Diana Ross for one day. I don't know how, like, that got racist on Halloween."

Later in the day, Kelly quickly walked back on her comments and issued an apology, I want to begin with two words, I'm sorry... The country feels so divided and I have no wish to add to that pain and offense. I believe this is a time for more understanding, more love, more sensitivity and honor... Thank you for listening and for helping me listen too." She continued to say that the views and criticism of others helped her think more critically, "Today is one of those days where listening carefully to other points of view, including from friends and colleagues, is leading me to rethink my own views."

Kelly's NBC colleagues expressed public disappointment with her comments. Kelly's "Today" colleague Craig Melvin called her comments "stupid" and "indefensible". Al Roker said she owes people of color a better apology, "she owes a bigger apology to folks of color across the country.” CNN host Don Lemon also blasted Kelly for her comments, “Megyn is 47 years old, she’s our age. There has never been a time in that 47 years that blackface has been acceptable,” Lemon stated.

Kelly also made an emotional live apology on her show Wednesday morning. "It is not OK for (blackface) to be part of any costume, Halloween or otherwise," Kelly stated.

"This past year has been so painful for many people of color," she continued. "The country feels so divided and I have no wish to add to that pain and offense. I believe this is a time for more understanding, more love, more sensitivity and honor, and I want to be part of that. Thank you for listening and for helping me listen too."

Now, I don't know how many people are buying that Kelly genuinley flipped her stance on such a sensitive topic within hours - but, cute apology, Megyn.

update: As reported by CNN, Megyn Kelly may have filmed her final show with NBC on Wednesday. She did not host her morning show on Thursday, and an NBC rep confirmed her shows will not be taped for a remainder of the week. CNN reported, "Megyn Kelly Today" is not over yet. But it's a matter of when, not if.”
