This morning, Donald Trump went on yet another explosive Twitter rant. Today’s victims were Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, hosts of the MSNBC morning talk show “Morning Joe”. Trump’s two tweet Twitter rant expressed, “I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (I don’t watch anymore. Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came to Mar-A-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year’s Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!” MSNBC’s statement in response: “It’s a sad day for America when the president spends his time bullying, lying and spewing petty personal attacks instead of doing his job.”
Some Republican lawmakers have criticized Trump’s comments. Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House, stated in a news conference this morning, “Obviously I don't see that as an appropriate comment." Republican Senator Ben Sasse tweeted, “Please just stop. This isn’t normal and it’s beneath the dignity of your office.” Lindsey Graham, Republican senator from South Carolina, tweeted, “Mr. President, your tweet was beneath the office and represents what is wrong with American politics, not the greatness of America.”
Deputy White House secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders expressed that the President is just defending himself from “liberal bullying”. She went on to say, “This is a President who fights fire with fire and will not be bullied.” First Lady Melania Trump, who started an initiative to bring awareness about how harmful cyberbullying is, defended her husband’s comments. Her communications team published a statement saying, “As the First Lady has stated publicly in the past, when her husband gets attacked, he will punch back 10 times harder.”
During the 2016 presidential election, Trump regularly appeared on the show. The relationship turned sour when Scarborough, a former Republican congressman, publicly criticized Trump.
When Scarbrough expressed that Trump was undisciplined, and doubted concerns about his ability to make it to the White House, Trump immediately took to publicly insulting the two on Twitter. Trump tweeted, “I hear @JOENBC of rapidly fading @Morning_Joe is pushing hard for a third party candidate to run”, and also remarked, “the show has gone really hostile”. This was just the start of the beef to come between the two. Last August, Trump called their show “unwatchable”, and tweeted, “@morningmika is off the wall, a neurotic and not very bright mess!” We can’t make this up. These are Tweets from the country’s current President.
Anyone who keeps up with Donald Trump’s Twitter is very much aware that he declares war via Twitter when any major figures have negative comments to say about him. The President is known to keep tabs about what the most popular news shows are saying about him.
