Representative Jason Chaffetz of Utah is leaving Congress after serving five terms. During his time on the Hill, he was the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, as well as being one of the main congressmen to lead the investigation about Hillary Clinton’s conduct with her email server.

The Utah Republican has been nothing short of controversial. Just a few weeks ago, he said Americans need to prioritize their needs, and stated, “And so maybe, rather than getting that new iPhone that they just love and they want to spend hundreds of dollars on, maybe they should invest in their own healthcare.”
This week, he caused a social media uproar after insisting House members should receive a $2,500 stipend, " I think a $2,500 housing allowance would be appropriate and a real help to have at least a decent quality of life in Washington if you're going to expect people to spend hundreds of nights a year here.” Given his party’s quest to restrict healthcare rights to millions of Americans, many found this comment to be insensitive and elitist. Chaffetz, who earns a salary of $193,000 a year, insisted that he cannot afford to pay for a mortgage in both Utah and Washington D.C.
Despite the controversy, Chaffetz is regarded as a rising star within the Republican Party. As Huffington Post described, “he frequently investigated former President Barack Obama’s White House.” He even vowed to continue investigating Clinton after the FBI said they recommended Clinton not be charged. However, he has not kept this passion of investigating the many scandals arising in the Trump administration.
Fox News announced today that Chaffetz will be joining their staff as a political analysis contributor, effective July 1st. Many speculate that he may run for governor of Utah.
