Cardi B Takes the Throne with No. 1 Spot on the Billboard Hot 100

Cardi B Takes the Throne with No. 1 Spot on the Billboard Hot 100

By Cheyenne Darcy Amaya

As Cardi B would say “a Trinidadian/Dominican regular degular girl from the Bronx did that.” She went from being at the bottom of the charts to the top with her new hit single “Bodak Yellow” in a short amount of time. She is also the first solo rapper to top the charts since Lauryn Hill’s “Doo-Wop (That Thing)” made No. 1 in 1998. Cardi B is also the first female rapper of color to be on the Hot 100 Billboards since the 2001 hit “Lady Marmalade” which was a collaboration of Lil Kim, Christine Aguilera, Mya, and Pink.

Cardi B took over and pushed Taylor Swift;s "Look What You Made Me DO" to No. 3 with Post Malone sitting at No. 2. She said it best in her hit single Bodak Yellow, “I’m the hottest in the street know you prolly heard of me.” She continues to flourish in the media and has come a long way since first starting off on “Love and Hip Hop: New York”. Her Instagram page and quirky videos later led her to jump start rapping and now to this huge accomplishment of being No. 1 on the Hot 100 charts.

Many other celebrities have even went to social media in the past few hours to congratulate her on her accomplishments. Nicki Minaj sent her love to Cardi B via. Twitter and said, “Congratulations to a fellow NEW YAWKA on a RECORD BREAKING achievement. Bardi, this is the only thing that matters!!!! Enjoy it.” Missy Elliott also posted to Twitter as well to congratulate her and Cardi B expressed her gratitude back to Missy Elliot through Instagram by posting the tweet and captioning it “The first album I ever bought. I didn’t even really understand what she was saying cause I was so young. I would never thought of this son!!! I love you!!!!”

No one deserves this more than Cardi B. She's worked so hard for it and continues to shine by putting in the work. I’m more shocked Bodak Yellow didn’t hit No. 1 sooner because I listen to it every day and so do all my friends, but I’m glad it finally did. In her own words, she doesn't dance now, she makes money moves! Congratulations Cardi B, we're all rooting for you. Here’s to seeing you break more glass ceiling’s in the close future!! #BardiGang
