We all knew the day would come when one of Trump’s campaign associates would go to jail. Today, former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafor had his bail revoked and was ordered by a federal judge to serve jail time as he waits for his trial. 

Paul Manafort was previously indicted on charges of acting as an unregistered agent as a foreign principal, making misleading statements under the Foreign Agent Registration Act, conspiracy to launder money, conspiracy against the United States, seven counts of failing to file reports of his foreign bank account, and more false statements. More recently, Manafort was charged with witness tampering. 

Manafort pleaded not guilty to all 12 charges and pending his trial he was released on a 10-million-dollar bail and confined to home arrest.  

Since Manafort was charged, it is believed he contacted witnesses in the Robert Mueller Investigation and instructed them to lie to federal agents on his behalf.  The prosecution argued that Manafort's witness tampering was in violation of his bail as he committed a new crime while on release. 

The U.S District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson told Manafort that, “you have abused the trust placed in you six months ago. The government motion will be granted and the defendant will be detained” 

Manafort's lawyers accused the prosecution of lying about the charges in hopes t Manafort would flip on Trump and his campaign associates. They maintain that Manafort has complied to all orders of his bail and did nothing wrong to result in detainment. 

Judge Jackson asserted that this "hearing is not about politics. It is not about the conduct of the office of special counsel, it is about the defendant's conduct.”
