Trump Re-Election Campaign Ad is Out: Attacks Media & Fake News
By: Kayla Pasacreta
Donald Trump's latest ad for his re-election campaign is out, and it attacks Democrats, mainstream media (it even picks on journalists April Ryan and Christopher Hayes), and attempts to spotlight Trump's landmark accomplishments.
The ad opens with a background video of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader of the House, Nancy Pelosi. Over the footage of Schemer and Pelosi is a voiceover aggressively stating, "Democrats obstructing." The two are widely regarded as some of the most powerful people in the Democratic Party.
After accusing the media of "attacking" Donald Trump, the video goes on to boast about Trump's accomplishments: a low unemployment rate, stock market highs, and a strong military. The video again changes course back to Trump's enemies, as the voiceover states, "The President's enemies don't want him to succeed."
With such a focus on Trump's enemies, the ad comes across as incredibly divisive. While attacking enemies is standard campaign protocol, the timing of the video is definitely off. Just one day after the white-supremacist gathering in Charlottesville, Virginia, the last thing the country needs is another tool that brings about finger-pointing and division.
