Beyoncé To Be Honored with Humanitarian Award At BET Awards Sunday

By: The Executive Tea Staff

Queen Bey’s work for the community is not getting unnoticed! We reported last week that Beyoncé released a song and Black-owned businesses directory in honor of Juneteenth. Following that release, the singer partnered with the National Urban League to create BeyGOOD’s Black business fund to support small Black-owned businesses. Now, Variety reports that the singer will be honored with the Humanitarian Award at this year’s BET awards virtual ceremony.

Bey will be honored for her BeyGOOD initiative, which she has used to support the Black community, with recent moves to amplify Black-owned businesses and also help provide COVID-19 relief for her hometown of Houston, Texas. BeyGOOD partnered with Mama Tina for the initiative to launch a #IDidMyPart campaign to encourage Black residents in Houston to get tested for coronavirus.

The initiative is also home to the “Formation Scholars”, a program to encourage and provide support for young women during their college journeys

According to Variety, BeyGOOD also partnered with UNICEF to launch “BeyGood4Burundi,” a multi-year partnership to bring safe water and sanitation to the small, landlocked East African country of Burundi. In 2018 she created the Homecoming Scholars Award Program, following her historic performance at Coachella,  which benefited students at eight HBCU colleges and universities.

This year’s ceremony will also honor the late Kobe Bryant, whom rapper Lil Wayne is slated to pay tribute to. Alicia Keys, Black Thought, Chloe X Halle, DaBaby, D Smoke, Jay Rock, Jennifer Hudson, Questlove, Nas, Usher, YG, and others will also be performing, Pitchfork reports.

Bey will be honored for good work and we will finally get to enjoy a rare Yonce appearance at an award show. This year’s BET Awards ceremony will air on BET/CBS on Sunday, June 28 at 8 p.m. Eastern.
