You read the headline right. "Sex and the City" actress Cynthia Nixon, 51, announced her gubernatorial bid Monday afternoon. Nixon, a lifelong New York resident, will be challenging current Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary.

In her campaign video released via Twitter, Nixon argued our leaders are letting us down, "We want our government to work again, on health care, ending mass incarceration, fixing our broken subway. We are sick of politicians who care more about headlines and power than they do about us. It can’t just be business as usual anymore.”

Nixon joins the likes of other celebrities turned politicians like Donald Trump, Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jesse Ventura. If she were to get elected, she would be the first female governor of New York and the first openly gay governor of New York.
