Trump Lacks Grace, Accountability After Bomb Scares

After a sender attempted to send packages containing bombs to several Democrats - including the Clintons, the Obamas, Vice President Joe Biden, Rep. Maxine Waters, Sen. Kamala Harris, actor Robert DeNiro, and news organization CNN, the country naturally awaited a response from “President” Donald Trump. Trump basically did the bare-minimum of a denouncement, co-signing a tweet by Vice-President Mike Pence that condemned the attempted attacks. When mentioning the attempted attacks at his rally last night, he did not even say the names of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, the most high-profile attempted recipients of the bombs. “Any acts or threats of political violence are an attack on our democracy itself.
A day after the attempted attacks were intercepted, Trump switched back to his traditional tone, shifting blame to the media. "A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News," Trump tweeted this morning. He continued to direct his tweets to mainstream media, calling out the New York Times,
The night before, Trump heavily criticized and made false claims about the Democratic Party during a rally in Wisconsin. He began with a firm message, “Any acts or threats of political violence are an attack on our democracy itself.” He quickly diverted to his usual style, as rally-goers chanted “lock her up!” just hours after an unknown sender attempted to send a bomb to the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Trump also condemned violence but in a way that very clearly shaded liberal protests, "We should not mob people in public spaces or destroy public property," He also directed more blame to the media, “The media also has a responsibility to set a civil tone and to stop the endless hostility and constant negative and oftentimes false attacks and stories. Have to do it,"
Former CIA director John Brennan, also a recipient of one of the bomb packages, chastised Trump for his response, "Your inflammatory rhetoric, insults, lies, (and) encouragement of physical violence are disgraceful," Brennan wrote on Twitter. "Clean up your act....try to act Presidential. The American people deserve much better."
