Here's what we know so far:

  • The New York City Police Department deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism said the terrorist "followed almost exactly to a T" ISIS' social media directions on how to execute a public attack
  • He used a truck rented from Home Depot
  • New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has called the incident a 'cowardly act of terror'
  • The suspect is currently still in police custody
  • The attack was planned for a number of weeks

President Trump took to Twitter at 4:24 AM this morning to chime in with his thoughts.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo responded to Trump's comments, deeming them 'unhelpful' and not entirely 'factual'. The Governor also blasted Trump for making the conversation about politics instead of invoking solidarity in the wake of the tragedy.

We will continuously update this story as we get more details.
